American Mafia: A History of its Rise to Power by Thomas Reppetto
Bugsy Siegel, Al Capone, Meyer Lansky, Lucky Luciano, The Black Hand . . . Legendary names in a thorough history of the Mafia in American history. Who did what to whom and how the mob was built is written in glorious detail by Thomas Reppetto.

Nothing's Sacred by Lewis Black
Anyone familiar with Lewis Black's stand-up will appreciate this collection. These short biographical essays range from notoriously funny to vaguely, unmistakably sad.

Read it, you'll probably laugh out loud at least once.

High and Mighty by by Keith Bradsher
Good short history of the auto history and the American truck. Although the title is rather ominous, the author does a credible job of explaining how Americans made the transition from 22-foot Buicks to 5000 pound Ford Expeditions.
